Evaluation of cardiorespiratory fitness with stairs climbing in elderly women

Oh Yoon-Sun
Abstract
This study was performed the analysis of applicapability of cardiorespiratory fitness measurement by the stairs climbing in elderly women. Test items were consisted of cardiorespiratory function, muscular strength and endurance. Cardiorespiratory function was measured by graded maximal test, Harvard step test, and stairs climbing test. Muscular function were measured by maximal voluntary contraction and muscular endurance test if knee joint. Continuous step stairs climbing with formal rhythm showed 105.41¡¾8.26 steps, and significantly(P<0.05) correlated to maximal oxygen uptake(r=0.519). Continuous duration of stairs climbing with the regular rhythm significantly(P<0.05) correlated to leg muscular endurance. In this study, we suggest that the stairs climbing test could be considered for evaluation method on cardiorespiratory fitness in elderly women.
